Traits

   Coyle is psychotic, paranoid, hypersexual, self-aggrandizing, and incredibly charismatic. He has a twisted view of justice, and seems to be aware, if just a little, of how fucked his head is [QUOTE]"Bitch needs to get out of my head, that is not a place anybody wants to be.".

   He also shows a fondness for alcohol and pistachios, as he was partaking in such before / during his interview with Clyde Perry, and from a voice line he can say while patrolling [QUOTE]"What I wouldn't give for a handful of pistachios.".

Electricity

   Leland has a deep facination (and fetish) for electricity. Almost all the ways he interacts with the player involves it in some way. His main weapon is his cattle prod, but he also references utilizing jumper-cables [QUOTE]"You have not lived 'till you seen a body dance on the end of set of jumper cables.", which can also be seen on some bodies in-game.

   During trials, his electrified baton and car battery emits a constant crackling sound, and can be seen with a blue glow in dark environments. The battery is almost always on (aside from Locksock the Warden's introduction), and, according to Coyle, belonged to a Pontiac of some sort.

   I see his cattle-prod as a stand-in for a typical police baton and / or taser (though, tasers didn't exist for police officers until the 1990s). He positively adores his weapon and uses it liberally on anyone and anything, including himself.

Torture & Sexuality

   He displays many sadistic tendencies [QUOTE]"Murder and sexual mutilation and imprisonment is my privilege alone."(especially towards those he considers "guilty", "communists"...), with most victims around his trial environments (either mannequins or human corpses) showing extreme burns all across their bodies. Notably, there are worse burns concetrated on these bodies' face, breasts, crotch, and rear.

   Leland is happiest when executing Reagents, futher supported by his new execution animations where he's visibly giddy at trying new ways to use his shock stick against players. He adores torturing his victims, namely the Snitch and, to a lesser extent, the Warden. He shows no mercy to those he's deemed "guilty", while surprisingly he treats those he can exploit for his own pleasure with a modicum of gentleness (reacting relatively very calmly to the Warden biting down on his "Little Justice", and even turning off his car battery during the act).

   Sgt. Coyle is very vulgar and an especially erotic individual, shown by a plethora of crass comments towards the player[QUOTE]"Sometimes wonder if you're just misbehaving because you like to be punished. Want me to pull on those pig-tails."[QUOTE]"Secret is, I just love criminals. And I'm gonna love you hard enough to do the kind of damage a body don't recover from."[QUOTE]"That is assault. I'm gonna rip you something fuckable for this."*swoon*. He craves power above all else, his dirty talk laced with references to himself being a police officer [QUOTE]"I'll protect, you serve."[QUOTE]"I'm gonna make that face a crime scene."[QUOTE]"Loose lips are the law's best friend.".

   When given the opportunity, he uses the Warden as his personal "fuck-pig", and it's been stated by Murkoff Staff that he displays a "more-than-usual eagerness to repeat the Trial" (referring to the Trial the Warden is in). Despite the players plainly seeing Coyle and the Warden having an intimate moment, Coyle will attempt to gaslight the Reagent [QUOTE]"You don't know what you saw. You got a diseased mind and I'm gonna stomp some Christian values into it.", and deny that he was being plesured by a man at all [QUOTE]"Think you saw me and another man you are god-damned dreaming. Sick hop-head fantasies.". Although I believe his attraction to any certain gender is dwarfed by his attraction to dominance and power, he expectedly shows hesitation and conflict upon sexual encounters with men [QUOTE]"Way that feels... it shouldn't be.", and, from my interpretation, is very embarassed that he got caught doing so.

   It's clear that he gains pleasure from the electricity eminating from him. He, and will touch the end of his live prod with his un-gloved hands during hallucinations and certain execution animations. It may also be speculated that the burns on his face are self-inflicted, but as of now there is no information on where they came from. The self-infliction of pain may also be interpreted as a way to manage his paranoid thoughts.

Justice & Paranoia

   Leland's paranoia and fears come from his insecurities and the thought of losing control. He's constantly rambling about a non-descript "they" (most likely referring to communists, Jewish people (as per his conspiracies) or other people he percieves as "threats"), convinced that these people will bring the downfall of America, and harm him the way he does to others [QUOTE]"...catch me sleeping. Some day. They catch me and they'll do with me every filthy and perverse thing their fevered native skulls can summon, leave me broken and ashamed and crying and they'll cut my throat and piss on me while I bleed out...".

   To combat this, he's dedicated to reign down a twisted sense of justice, torturing and mutilating "criminals" with his electric cattle prod. His idea of the law is whatever he says is true [QUOTE]"I said she's guilty so she's guilty. She is gonna dance on lightning."[QUOTE]"I am the law.", and has no issue in taking bribes, extortion, or claiming the innocent is guilty under no true pretences.

   As expected, Leland is incredibly prejudiced, and displays many racist, anti-semetic, misogynistic, and xenophobic views [QUOTE]"Reds and papists and coloreds and union goons and ornamentals and I don't know what country this is anymore."[QUOTE]"[...]Went all shiny and black. Said you look like one of 'em now."[QUOTE]"Of course you want an easy answer. Jews or the colords or the commies, and I'm happy to sell you whatever it is you want to buy.[...]". To contrast this, many of his voice lines come off as comical and display his ignorance and stupidity [QUOTE]"Who the fuck is Ed Gregor?!"[QUOTE]"That's a worrisome name, Futterman. Sounds kinda... I don't know. New York or something.".

   Introduced during Project Boneyard, a new evidence document can be found that is written by Coyle during his time in the Sinyala Facility. This document may very well be akin to the kind of notes he would obsessivly make throughout his adulthood (and possibly younger), as he considers himself "vital to history and of great interest to posterity." It's also worth mentioning how this is the first time we've seen anything written by him, and that there are numerous spelling errors. Whether this is the cause of drugs or the Oklahoma public school system is up to you.

   Within this new document, Coyle rambles on about the Murkoff scientists, how he's been thoroughly heavily drugged, and most alarmingly, how he's hearing voices in the walls of the facility. He mentions the names "Irene" and "June", likely being names of his former wives he's killed (meaning there's still one wife unnamed). He states that it can't be either of them, stating "Fact: dead wives don't talk." This could imply that Leland has had a history of his wives' voices appearing in his head (specifically his wives and not any of their family members (whom he has also killed in convoluted methods) mentioned here makes me think they were special to him in some way. Maybe.). He decides to further inflict tooth pain (from when he cracked a molar on a Benzedrine pill) in order to drown out the voices, which seem to help along with the Benzedrine.
